A two-alarm fire broke out at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, causing significant smoke and widespread transit disruptions. According to the LIRR, operations at eight points have been either suspended or rerouted:

- West Hemptead
- Port Washington
- Ronkonkoma
- City Terminal Zone
- Far Rockaway
- Hempstead
Three firefighters and one civilian are reported to have been non-lethally injured.
